Last days with Grandma

Before Grandma left us to go back home, we had just a few more fun events occur. I got this haunted house kit, and the girls, Grandma, and I spent some time putting it together. I even allowed glitter in my house-it has been years since I have done anything involving glitter because I can't stand it! But we played with glue and glitter and it wasn't too bad, actually, it was a lot of fun. Adelynne got really creative with some of the stickers. She even put a few spiders inside the house to add her personal touch. It was just something fun we enjoyed doing, even Amy helped stick on the roof shingles. Sorry about the blurry shots, but you get the point.

Sometimes when Amy is being a little naughty, we tell her to go to time-out. This is what happens when she actually listens to us. It is so cute and funny, that I don't think Amy will ever take time-out seriously because she thinks it is all just a game.



Since Grandma had a late flight in Indianapolis, we decided to go to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis before taking her to the airport. We didn't go too early, so the girls had a little nap on the way down and they were in a good mood while we were there. It was a great way to spend our last day with Grandma.

At the children's museum we started with the bottom floor and worked our way up. The first things we saw were the trains, and what train museum doesn't come with a train table for the kids to play with?

After the trains we went to see the dinosaurs at Adelynne's request. Actually, the dinosaurs were what she wanted to see first, but we thought we could get to the dinosaurs by going downstairs. We were wrong, and ended up starting with the trains, which turned out not to be a disappointment. The girls looked around at the dinosaur casts and then went to the children's dig site where the kids can pretend to be paleontologists and dig for dinosaur bones. Even Amy wanted to participate, however she wouldn't leave the required goggles on long enough to actually do some digging. But Adelynne stayed for a while to dig up some bones. Then we went to another play area for the kids to play with the toy dinosaurs. Amy started imitating a little boy who was roaring like a dinosaur. They had a great time with the toys.

This is my favorite "dinosaur" cast: The Giant Crocodile. It isn't a dinosaur at all, just a giant crocodile that lived during the time of dinosaurs. It would grow to be as long as a school bus! I enjoyed learning a little bit about it.


After the dinosaurs we went to the comic book exhibit and looked around a little bit. Amy and Adelynne were fascinated with the man in the super hero costume. He showed them little objects from his super hero pouch and talked to them about the different things in the museum. Both of the girls sat and listened to him for a good 15 minutes or more. Then we went to the playscape room where the girls played and played. This is one of the best rooms of the museum if you have a child under 5 years old. Adelynne had fun with the sand, but according to Grandma, all Amy did was dump the sand on the ground. So Grandma dragged Amy away from the sand table and that is when Amy found her true love: the baby dolls. She took the dolls out of the giant playhouse and went to the rumble tumble area for 2 and under. Eventually she got rid of one of the dolls, but she hung on to the one baby for a long, long time.

When Adelynne tired of the sand table she and Daddy went to work on building their own little house. Adelynne worked very hard with her Dad and enjoyed the fruits of her labor. She was sitting in the house when a little boy came up and wanted to make a way for her to get out. The boy and Dustin made a doorway and put a roof on the house. But then Adelynne was upset because she wasn't hiding, so eventually Dustin had to put the wall back up. But it was fun to see Adelynne work with her Daddy.

Amy finally gave up the baby dolls and went to the water table where she fell in love with the ducks. She didn't like sharing them at all. We ended our time at the museum with a ride on the carousel, and this time Adelynne did not cry. Amy wanted to ride on the tiger and she got her wish.

Amy was so excited to ride the carousel, but when she got on it she was so serious and barely cracked a smile.

After the museum we drove Grandma to the airport and sadly waved her off. The girls were a little confused about leaving Grandma, but they didn't cry. We had such a great time with Grandma, and the girls really loved having her here as did I.
